Robert (Bob) D. Ames, of Hartland, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 13, 2019 at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI. He was born April 7, 1937 to Theodora (Teddy) and Fletcher Ames in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Bob was the youngest son of Fletcher and Teddy. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids High School in Grand Rapids, MN. On August 20, 1960 he married Patricia Joan Burres at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Bovey, MN. Bob has belonged to Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church since the family moved to Hartland in 1979.
As a youngster, Bob enjoyed spending a great deal of time outdoors. His home was located on McKinney Lake in Grand Rapids, and he would frequently swim across the lake and visit the local Dairy Queen. Bob also enjoyed fishing and was often found down on the shoreline fishing with his friends.
Bob met Patty in high school and both worked at a local Grand Rapids radio station. Her as the station receptionist, with Bob doing odd jobs at the station including being the station weatherman. He would often tell the story that he’d stick his head out of the station window and report the weather.
After they were married, Bob and Pat first resided in Virginia where Bob served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. Upon his return, he enrolled at the Minnesota School of Business and received an Associate Degree in Business. In 1963, they moved to Duluth, MN where Bob started his career with Philip Morris USA, as a Territory Representative. He traveled the “Iron Range” of Minnesota working with his accounts and various retailers. Bob continued to enjoy the outdoors both in the summer and winter. Bob and Pat both raced snowmobiles, and Bob enjoyed skiing whenever he could. He was also an avid hunter and would hunt with his father in law frequently. While living in Duluth, Bob and Pat had two sons, Brian (1966) and Bradley (1970).
In 1979 the Ames’ relocated to Hartland, Wisconsin after accepting a promotion at Philip Morris USA. Bob continued to work at PM USA until he retired in 1993 after 30 years. Many of his co-workers remained close friends to both Bob and Pat. Upon retiring, Bob and Pat spent 14 winters in Arizona enjoying the warm climate and day trips from their Arizona home. After Pat passed in 2016, Bob remained active with local friends playing poker and enjoyed cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Theodora Ames, and stepfather Ed Williams. Wife, Patricia (Burres) Ames, Brother James Ames, Sister-in-Law Lucille Ames, and nephew Christopher Frazier.
He is survived by his sons, Brian (Penny) Ames of Champaign, Il, and Brad (Katie) Ames of New Berlin, WI. Grandchildren, Stephanie (Wesley Silver) Ames and Monica (Nicole Davis) Ames, Mason, Lila, and Owen Ames. Sister in Law, Bobbie Rand, Brother in Law, Rev. Neil Rand, nephew Terry Frazier, Sister in Law, Barb Anderson, Brother in Law, Lou Anderson, niece, Megan (Ian) Hendrix, nephew Morgan (Jenny) Anderson and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church, 31385 Hill Rd. Hartland, WI on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Rev. Neil Rand PhD, will be conducting the service. A luncheon will be served immediately following.
Interment will be a private family committal.
