David Evenstad was welcomed into heaven by the loving arms of Jesus on March 26th, 2025, at the age of 76 in Oconomowoc, WI. His final days were spent with his loving wife, Karen, along with family and dear friends. Known for his joviality and ability to always make you laugh, Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dave was born to Raymond and Irene Evenstad on October 26, 1948 in Shawano, Wisconsin. Raised in Green Bay along with three brothers, the Evenstad house was joyful chaos. After graduating high school, Dave went on to the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, where he focused on making lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers. He married Barbara Thiry (deceased 2006) and began a very successful and fulfilling career in the Marine Corps, with highlights including posts as Commanding Officer at 2nd LAAD Battalion and Instructor at Marine Corps Command and Staff College. After Barbara’s passing and 35 years of marriage, Dave was blessed to find love again with Karen Krueger, and together they joined two families into one.
At retirement, Dave went from Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel and independent contractor to his favorite job of all, boat captain on Nagawicka Lake. Here, he spent his days listening to rock music, cracking open a cold beer, and dragging his family behind him on the inner tube at questionable speeds. His favorite roles were those of loving husband, father, and Papa.
Dave’s faith in Christ was the foundation of his life, guiding him in love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He lived with the confidence of God’s promise and the joy of knowing he would one day be welcomed into heaven.
Dave is survived by his wife, Karen, daughter, Corin (Eric) Harmon, son, Brett (Amy) Evenstad, and daughter, Linsey Evenstad. With a joyful heart, upon marriage to Karen, Dave welcomed Nicholas (Aubrey) Krueger, Erik (Jennifer) Krueger, and Kalli (Ben) Matthies to his family. Also left behind are the pride of Dave and Karen, their grandkids: Addison, Emily, Colin, Claire, Ethan, Meghan, Caleb, Sage, Kaisley, Bex, and Brecken.
Dave saw everyone as a friend. If you’re a friend of Dave’s, you’re a friend forever.
