Denise Marie Szep (Ewart), 56 of Merton passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Denise was born in Milwaukee on August 31,1967, to the late James & Georgeann Ewart (Labinski). Denise is survived by her loving and devoted husband John Szep whom she married on August 4th, 2000.
Denise has always put the needs of others first with her compassionate and caring personality. It was no surprise that she pursued her nursing degree full-time at Milwaukee Area Technical College while working fulltime. She recently celebrated 35 years of dedicated service as a registered nurse for Aurora Health Care attending to her patients at the Wilkinson Clinic in Hartland. Denise continued to work throughout her chemotherapy treatment for sarcoma up until the day before the Lord called her home to rest. Even after death, Denise continued giving of herself by donating her corneas to provide the gift of sight to two individuals.
Denise developed her loved for gardening and building jigsaw puzzles from her dad. She enjoyed being in the kitchen, and she would spend each Sunday afternoon preparing at least 3 meals for the upcoming week, just like her mom. Denise loved walking her two dogs Pretzel and Holly. Also, she loved spending time with family, and she spoiled her nieces and nephews. Family and friends looked forward to Denise’s annual holiday gatherings, like her Halloween costume parties and St. Nick celebrations.
Denise is survived by her sister Deborah (Jeffrey) Zuercher and brother Curtis Ewart, sisters and brothers-in-law Nancy (Rex) Bowen, Karen (Mark) Geske, and Barbara (Thomas) Fetkenhauer, special nephews and nieces Andrew (Kimberly) Kochan, Christopher (Sarah) Kochan, Samantha and Jake Ewart, and great niece and nephews Oliver and Elliot Kochan, and Autumn (Aarich ) Curtis, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Denise is preceded in death by her brother Scott Ewart, her father and mother-in-law George and Evelyn (Ladner) Szep, and brother-in-law Rick Swan.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Denise will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church (W314N7462 State Road 83, North Lake) at 11 am. Visitation will be at the church from 10 am until the time of mass.
