Dolores F. Bland, nee Fay, age 94, of Oconomowoc, WI, passed away peacefully on the morning
of October 12, 2022.
Beloved wife of the late Richard F. Bland, loving mother of her children,
Susan Beede (Gary), Robert Bland (Maureen), William Bland (Denise) and the late Philip Bland.
Loving daughter of the late Victor and Veronica (Sullivan) Fay. She is survived by 18
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Dolores lived a full and caring life and cherished being surrounded by family and friends.
Dolores was an only child and born in her home in Chicago on Mason Avenue.
She attended grade school at St. Catherine of Sienna parish in Oak
Park and graduated from Trinity High School in 1946. After high school she attended classes at
Rosary College in River Forest, IL. After marrying Richard Bland in 1949, Dolores and Richard
bought a small home in Riverside, IL and lived there from 1951 to 1970. In the 1960s, Dolores
loved visiting Rhinelander, WI and traveling in the family motor home some 90,000 miles on
long trips throughout the United States. In 1970 the Blands moved to Hinsdale, IL and lived
there until 1989. After Richard’s retirement, Dolores and Richard spent 25 wonderful years
together in Hilton Head Island, SC. Dolores was known as an avid animal lover her entire life,
was never without at least one dog, and also had a keen appreciation and love for nature and
the outdoors, including the wild birds and alligators that would frequent her waterfront back
yard in Hilton Head. A special friend was her cockatiel that lived for 30 years. In 2018 Dolores
moved to Oconomowoc, WI to be closer to her family.
Dolores’ family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Shorehaven Senior Living
Community in Oconomowoc, WI for rendering outstanding care and attention to Dolores over
the past 4 years.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. James at Sag Bridge Catholic Church, 10600 Archer Avenue,
Lemont, IL at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 26, 2022, followed by a private family burial.
