James Allen Carroll age 90 passed away peacefully November 9th at Cherry Meadows of Appleton after a yearlong battle with renal cancer.
James was born December 2, 1933, to William and Mamie Carroll on a small farm in Calhoun, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of the old Hartland High School where he met the love of his life Joan Korta (nee). They married and raised eight children in Hartland.
James was a loving, devoted and caring man who’s home had an open-door policy for anyone in time of need. He loved anything that had to do with the outdoors, whether it be gardening, hiking, camping, fishing (especially ice fishing) and hunting. James was a man who taught his family how to truly enjoy the simple things in life and never to take a day for granted. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for over 30 years in Hartland for troop 24 and 224. James was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America which is the highest distinguished service honor they grant to a volunteer. He worked 40 years and retired as a foreman at Quality Aluminum Foundry of Waukesha. Jim was an avid fan of the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Olympics. He loved to listen to the games on the radio or watch them on the T.V. He would also wear the apparel of those teams almost every day.
Jim was preceded in death by his brothers Warren, Wesley, Willard, Oliver, and sister Marion. He is survived by his ex-wife Joan Carroll, children James Jr., Leon, David (Jenny), Brian (Dana), Bruce, Andy (Becky), Cathy (Chris) Jones, and Mary Jo Wienk. Jim has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. There are too many to list and Jim loved them all dearly.
Thank you to the employees of Thedacare Hospice of Shawano and Cherry Meadows respite care of Appleton for their loving, dedicated care in the final days of Jim’s life. They’re all Saints in our book, and our family was truly blessed having your staff care for him. And a very special “thanks” to Evert-Luko Funeral Home for the support and dedication they provided during this difficult time.
No formal services will be held.
