On August 17, 2023, Jasper (Jay) James Laudicina, 85, of Huntley, IL, peacefully passed away, surrounded by many family members, after a long battle with kidney disease and other complications. Jay displayed remarkable strength and positivity during his last few months while sharing precious time with his beloved family and friends.
Jay most recently resided in the Del Webb Community of Huntley after moving from his former home of almost 40 years in Covered Bridge Trails of Crystal Lake. Jay was united in marriage with Doris A. Burczyk, whom he met at Marquette University. They were married September 17, 1960.
Born and raised in Rockford, IL, Jay was the youngest of three, alongside his sisters Rosemary and Josephine. Jay's athleticism earned him a football scholarship to Marquette. He also excelled at basketball and baseball during his school years. After graduating from Marquette, he pursued a couple of different careers but ultimately took the risk to establish his own business which he remained dedicated to until the very end.
Jay's life was enriched by his business ventures, cherished family, dear friends, neighbors, and his passion for golf. He enjoyed many joyful family gatherings, milestone birthday celebrations, and festive holiday get-togethers with both family and friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife Doris (June 23, 2012), his daughter Jill Laudicina (November 14, 2016), his sisters Rosemary Hillmer and Josephine Sparacino, his father James Laudicina, and his mother Mary (Rapa) Laudicina. He is survived by his daughter Laurie Fleck (husband Tom Fleck) and grandchildren Ryan Fleck and Reagan LaValle (husband Zach LaValle), his daughter Cheryl Bigney (husband Scott Bigney) and grandchildren Christopher Bigney and Carrine Bigney. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren Justin Wyatt and Jennifer Wyatt, who are the children of his late daughter Jill. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews are also part of his enduring legacy.
Special thanks go out to the many people who stood by him during his difficult times. Nothing brought him more happiness than a friendly face coming to see him.
