John A. Roehr went home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 62 years old and found peace after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
John was born on July 14, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI to Jim & Joan (Rottmann) Roehr. Known as a fun-loving kid who enjoyed spending time outdoors, John kept the spirit of his childhood alive throughout his life — a twinkle in his eye always appeared at the first sign of mischief or when a plan was hatched for a good prank.
John had a successful career in the printing business and married his sweetheart Kelly Edwards at the base of a “Bridal Veil Falls” in Spearfish, South Dakota during Bike Week on August 11, 1994. The locale was perfect for the travel and Harley Davidson-loving couple, who made countless friends and riding buddies across the country.
The couple welcomed their beloved child, Heather, on June 24, 1996. John was a devoted and steadfast father who found a spirited love of life, connecting with the outdoors hunting, fishing, and spending time with family on Fox Lake, WI.
John’s advice, life lessons and, at times, aimless rants, became known to those around him as “The Book of John” — a book his loved ones will cherish in his absence.
John relentlessly supported his friends and family through the ups and downs of life, even when it came time to share his diagnosis in 2021. He enjoyed a fun-loving sense of travel, traversing the country even after his diagnosis, determined to fish in every lake and ocean he could. A natural giver and compassionate husband and father, he reminded his family he loved them and was proud of them every day.
John is preceded in death by his father, Jim Roehr; his mother, Joan (Rottmann) Roehr; grandparents Al, Alice, Clarence, and Martha.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly; his daughter, Heather (Reba Porosky); his sister, Susan Casper (Peter); his niece Elizabeth Casper (Ethan Kargus); his nephew Tommy Casper; his aunt Doris Rottmann; his uncle Bill Rottmann; and countless extended family, chosen family, and friends whose lives he touched during the all too short amount of time he could spend with them.
