Marjorie Ann Gipson "Marge"

March 20, 1938 — February 13, 2020

Marjorie Ann (Marge) Gipson died on February 13, 2020 unexpectedly from natural causes. Born to John and Irene Kmiec on March 20, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio, Marge was raised in the Polish tradition in the Lagrange Street (Polish Village) neighborhood. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and then received a nursing degree from The Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (1959) and later a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Toledo. Marge worked as a dedicated healthcare professional in the Toledo area until her retirement and relocation to Florida with her beloved husband, Frederick V. (Fred) Gipson, a family physician who practiced in West Toledo. The office on Reynolds Road that Fred and Marge operated together was known for making house calls and treating patients without regard to ability to pay. Marge and Fred were blessed with over 46 years of marriage and many happy retirement years in the Highland Lakes community in Leesburg, Florida surrounded by friends and visited often by their children and grandchildren. After Fred’s passing in 2015, Marge relocated to the Atlanta area and then to Hartland, Wisconsin.
Marge had a brilliant mind: She read voraciously and absorbed fully even the most dense and complicated material up until her passing. Marge forged special relationships with many different kinds of people because she was non-judgmental, empathetic, flexible and generous. She will always be remembered for her love of cats, birds, flowers (orchids were her favorite) and music (especially classical) and for her ability to create a beautiful, calm and soothing aesthetic wherever she resided (and to keep a spotless house in the Polish tradition!). She loved to entertain, and many wonderful memories were created at her and Fred’s annual Christmas Eve celebration in their Talmadge Road home.
Marge lovingly raised and leaves behind her children and their spouses who will miss her dearly: Gay Gipson (Sally Pearman), Julia Hatcher (Andrew Roth), Matthew Gipson (Cathy), Michael Hatcher (Laura) and Paul Gipson (Sherry). She also was a wonderful grandmother to Lindsey (Connor Dalton), Taylor and Kiley (Cameron Washington) Gipson, Christopher and Benjamin Hatcher, Warren and Goldie Roth and Kamryn and Kaley Six. She is also survived by her sisters, with whom she enjoyed a close relationship, Barbara Masters (Marvin) and Carol Teitlebaum (Phillip), and her nephews and great niece. Marge also had the honor of becoming a great grandmother to, and spending time with, Rett Dalton.
The family grieves the loss of this kind and steady presence but feels at peace to know that she is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father and reunited with her Fred. A memorial service is being planned to celebrate Marge’s life at a date and location in Toledo to be announced shortly.
Whenever you see a beautiful bird chirping, think of Marge singing and talking to it like an old friend.
