Richard D. “Rick” Stevens passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2019, two days following his 74th birthday. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rick served four years during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are Darlene, his wife of nearly 48 years, and two sisters. Rick was especially lovingly tolerated by his sister-in-law Sandy and nephew Scott and niece Summer and their families. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Bob, and they are no doubt happily exchanging insults in the hereafter as they did in life.
Rick owned an industrial sales company until retirement and later helped restore antique tractors for a decade. He and Darlene then started a kettle corn business, which has become well known throughout Wisconsin’s farmers market community. He was also a talented woodworker, a hobby he found enjoyable and relaxing.
Rick served as a Hartland Village trustee for 13 years, a Waukesha County supervisor, past-president of the Hartland Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Lake County Rotary Club, where he helped organize many community projects. He received the Giraffe Award for community service for essential and tireless commitment to others and was named a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow.
Despite his comments to the contrary, Rick and his cats loved each other unconditionally. He also loved to tell jokes, with at least one tale ready at any time. Long-time cronies Merl Austin and Mike White, along with many other friends and acquaintances, were special recipients of Rick’s “humor.”
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post at 231 Goodwin Ave. Hartland, WI on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m. followed by military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory to HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society), 701 Northview Rd., Waukesha, WI 53188, would be appreciated.
